Semen collection and analysis under a microscope or using our high tech CASA (Computer Assisted Semen Analysis), to evaluate the quality and quantity (concentration M/ml) of sperm being produced. A single semen sample may not be representative of a male’s semen quality. We recommend collecting multiple samples several days to weeks apart to evaluate any abnormalities.

The sperm-rich fraction of the ejaculate is evaluated immediately. The semen is evaluated for volume, motility, morphology and colour. Most dogs produce between 0.5 and 3ml of the sperm-rich fraction of semen, and it should be white to opalescent. The semen sample is evaluated for the percentage of sperm that are moving (motility) and the percentage of sperm that are moving in one direction (progressive motility). Finally, the semen is evaluated for other cell types, particularly bacteria or blood cells that may indicate infection or inflammation in the male reproductive tract.

Canine pregnancy scanning using a veterinary grade ultrasound scanner, is performed predominantly to detect pregnancy from 28 days although 31 - 33 days is better.  I am fully trained and a member of the Animal Ultrasound Association.

The scan involves a detailed examination of the abdomen to confirm pregnancy, advise of any signs of concern (non-diagnosic but vet referal may be advised) and advise of estimated* gestational sacs with viable foetus. 

There is no need for shaving, except where there is excess hair on the abdomen and the whole experience is carried out in a calm and relaxed manner. I can provide photos and/or videos of the scan via message or email.

"It has been announced that from 6 April 2016 every owner in England will have to have their dog microchipped by law. According to the government, owners who do not comply risk facing fines of up to £500." 

"It was also annouced that new rules mean cats must be implanted with a microchip before they reach the age of 20 weeks and their contact details stored and kept up to date in a pet microchipping database. All owners must have their cat microchipped by 10 June 2024 and owners found not to have microchipped their cat will have 21 days to have one implanted, or may face a fine of up to £500."
